After 27Months In Cell Suspended Police Commissioner Aba Kyari Released

Abba Kyari, the erstwhile Deputy Commissioner of Police, has been liberated from the confines of the Kuje Custodial Centre situated in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This liberation marks the conclusion of his 27-month sojourn behind bars.

Adamu Duza, the official representative of the Nigerian Correctional Service for the Federal Capital Territory Command, confirmed to PUNCH that Kyari was emancipated on Friday after fulfilling the stipulations of his bail.

SaharaReporters had previously disclosed that the Federal High Court in Abuja had granted Kyari, the former Commander of the Intelligence Response Team, a fortnight's reprieve to partake in the funeral rites of his mother, Yachilla Kyari, who departed on Sunday, May 5, 2024. The court ordained this hiatus to enable Kyari to pay his final respects and honor his familial obligations.

In addition to the mourning period, Kyari and his cohorts from the IRT face a judicial ordeal over allegations of drug-related offenses, including conspiracy and unlawful tampering with seized cocaine. Despite consistent denial of bail, a recent ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja, prompted by the demise of Kyari's mother, granted him temporary release for this somber occasion.
