As first revealed last week by non-league side Weymouth FC, Chelsea played a closed-doors friendly against them today (Sunday) at Cobham. Thomas Tuchel confirmed yesterday that it would be used as an opportunity to give minutes to players on the fringes of the first-team, those waiting to go out on loan, and to those who returned late from summer holidays because of various commitments and are still very much in need of match fitness.

As has been the case for all of our closed-doors friendlies this summer, Chelsea maintained strong secrecy around the match, with limited reporting and no broadcasting or streaming of any kind. That part I still don’t quite understand, but whatever.

What we do know is that Chelsea led 8-0 at half-time and won 13-0 in the end. Would expect nothing less against a fifth tier outfit, though obviously the scoreline wasn’t the important part.

Based on the few pictures and reports we do have available, at least the following players took part:

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Ethan Ampadu, Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Emerson, Davide Zappacosta, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi, Callum Hudson-Odoi

UPDATE: Goal-scorers as per the Chelsea website include Hudson-Odoi (x2), Batshuayi (x5), Barkley (x3), Thiago Silva, James.

We now have a week until the Arsenal match, so hopefully a base level of fitness will have been achieved by then by all players in the first-team.
