Nigerian soldiers in Enugu State have arrested at least 140 political thugs in the Nsukka local government area. The soldiers were providing security for the Governorship and House of Assembly elections. The hoodlums were allegedly deployed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had lost the presidential and Senatorial elections to the opposition Labour Party in the state. The arrested thugs were armed with weapons, including AK-47 rifles, and some have confessed that they were deployed by a local government chairman named Hon Walter Ozioko. The hoodlums were picked up at the Carolina Hotel in Nsukka, according to an inside source.
